After and before side by side.  (Mrs Bryant. Photographer unknown)
This is the only image the client has of her Mother as a younger woman.  As the client is in her 60's, the estimated era of the photo is late 1930s - early 1940s and was taken in Germany.
Besides having the corners cut off that had to be re-drawn, there were many creases and marks on the surface as well as age 'chroming' of the black areas of her hair.

Mr Bryant before (Photographer unknown)  - note the sticky tape!
Rather than attempt to do anything with the actual photograph, I scan the image into my computer and create a new photograph.
The client receives 2 digital prints (one enlargement if requred) and a CD with the image on it including web and email re-sized for all the online genealogists.
Final cost to reproduce and repair this image (left), including prints & CD is $60.00 but costs do vary according to condition of the photograph in need of repair.

Mr Bryant after.  Surprisingly, this image didn't take as long to restore as Mrs Bryant.
